For example, a given client hospital may have a hospitalist or intensivist workload that ranges from 1.25 to 1.75 physicians, but only one physician is onsite at the facility. Greater efficiencies are realized by using remote telepresence, which provides fractional coverage on an as-needed basis. If the demand for coverage increases, the onsite physician can request backup from remote personnel until the workload returns to a lower level.
